	The 2017 Prague Spring festival is brought to a powerful close as Krzysztof Penderecki conducts the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and Slovak Philharmonic Choir in a performance of his monumental seventh symphony Seven Gates of Jerusalem. This work bears witness to an introspective thought about faith, written in honour of the city of Jerusalem, for soloists, choir and orchestra, with libretto taken from Old Testament.

	Beethoven's last three sonatas explore the intimate meanders of the human soul, from despair to transfiguration. At the time of their composition, Beethoven was already locked in himself by his deafness. This deeply affected his relationships with others and the world. This psychological framework is explored by director Mariano Nante, setting pianist Alexandre Tharaud in a film inspired by the universe of Tarkovski.

	Alexander Ullman (1991, United Kingdom) performs Die drei Zigeuner (S383), Die Zelle in Nonnenwerth (S382bis) and La lugubre gondola, (S134bis) during semi-final II (chamber music) of the 11th International Franz Liszt Piano Competition, held in TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht, in 2017. The competition actively presents, develops, and promotes piano talents from around the world.

	In May 2019, the new principal conductor of the Gewandhaus, Andris Nelsons, presented Tchaikovsky's Symphony No 5 with his orchestra in combination with Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No 1 with outstanding violinist Baiba Skride as the soloist.

	Rossini's popular work - which was first performed in 1816 at the Teatro Argentina in Rome - contains some of opera's most tuneful and recognisable music - from its lively overture to Figaro's Largo al factotum to Rosina's Una voce poco fa. Based on the play of the same title by the French dramatist Beaumarchais (1732-1799), the opera is a delightful rigmarole of riotous situations in a race to win the hand of the young Rosina.

	Marin Alsop conducts the Britten-Pears Orchestra in a performance of Maurice Ravel's 'Ma mère l'Oye' (Mother Goose). This performance took place at Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Snape Bridge in the UK in 2017. This five-part orchestral suite was originally as a piano duet in 1910, but the composer orchestrated the work the year after. Ravel originally composed the work as a piano duet for the two children of Polish sculptor Gobeski and dedicated the work for four hands to the children.

	The Belgian composer André Ernest Modeste Grétry composed his version of Guillaume Tell. This opéra comique in three acts is performed at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie, in Liège, under the baton of Claudio Scimone. Soloists are Marc Laho, Anne-Catherine Gillet, Lionel Lhote, Liesbeth Devos, and Patrick Delcour. It was first performed by the Comédie-Italienne, in Paris, in 1791.

	Fabio Luisi conducts the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in this powerful performance taken from the 150th Anniversary celebrations of Denmark's national composer, Carl Nielsen. Alongside Nielsen's inscrutably ironic Symphony No. 6, this performance features world-renowned French pianist Lise de la Salle as soloist in Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No. 4.
