    Le Sacre du Tympan

    The French big band `Le Sacre du Tympan' was founded by bassist and composer Fred Pallem. Pallem's oeuvre is strongly influenced by the music of as diverse a range of composers as André Popp, Charles Ives, Duke Ellington and Neil Young. The wide variety of his musical sources of inspiration can be found in the progressive jazz music played by the big band. A large part of this 17-man band studied at the jazz department of the Paris Conservatory.

This desire was fulfilled in 1949 and 1950 when he recorded two albums with oboe, harp, string section and a jazz rhythm section, released as 'Charlie Parker with Strings'.

    Mizikopéyi Big Band Live à L'Atrium

    Mizikopéyi is the first West Indian and Caribbean group to perform contemporary music from Martinique and Guadeloupe - zouk, beguine, mazurka and kompa - with big band arrangements. Together with Martinique artist Tony Chasseur, the big band offers a musical journey through a rich cultural heritage, mixing traditional and popular Antilles and Afro-Caribbean melodies with the harmonies of brass instruments as seen in the great tradition of New Orleans.
