    Ginandrea Noseda

    Bruckner

    When it comes to shaping a musical event for the ears and the eyes, the monumental majesty of Anton Bruckner's symphonies and the exhilarating vibrancy of St Florian's monastery are a perfect match, especially when they are captured on film so thrillingly by such an eminent director as Brian Large in 2012. Bruckner became acquainted with the monastery's organ in his childhood and served as the organist there from 1845 to 1855.

    Stravinsky

    The Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink closes the Berlin Philharmonic's Europakonzert at the Royal Albert Hall in London with Stravinsky's `Rite of Spring', which he wrote in 1913 for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. The première caused a sensation and near-riot in the audience due to the avant-garde nature, music and choreography of the piece.

    Janáček - Glagolitic Mass

    Mariss Jansons conducts the chorus and instrumental ensemble of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra in a performance of Leoš Janáček's Glagolitic Mass at the Lucerne Easter Festival of 2012.     Mahler - Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen

    Baritone Thomas Hampson and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra perform Gustav Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen under the direction of Leonard Bernstein (1918-1990). This 1990 concert was filmed in the great hall of Vienna's legendary Musikverein. This cycle is composed of four songs, whose texts are signed by the composer from the folk poems Des Knaben Wunderhorn (The Enchanted Corinth of the Child).
