	Franz Welser-Möst conducts the Cleveland Orchestra in a performance of Bruckner's Symphony No 7. The work occupies a singularly important place in the composer's output. It was with this piece that Bruckner finally achieved widespread recognition and it has remained one of his most popular works. The symphony adheres to the classical four-movement format. The heart of the work is a long and deeply felt Adagio, composed as a memorial to Wagner.

	In this splendid 2013 concert from the Church of Verbier, Switzerland, Greek violinist Leonidas Kavakos and Chinese pianist Yuja Wang join forces to interpret three sonatas by Johannes Brahms. Leonidas Kavakos rose to fame in 1985, when he became the youngest musician to ever win the first price of the prestigious Sibelius Competition. With Yuja Wang, an accomplished artist at young age herself, he forms a masterful duo of chamber music interpretation.

	On 14 November 1987, conductor Simon Rattle made his Berlin Philharmonic debut with Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 6. In retrospect Rattle says that he felt like he was finding his voice that day. Mahler's multifaceted work is now again on the program when Sir Simon appears for the last time as chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic in the Philharmonie in 2018.

	The 2017 Reate Festival in Rieti, Italy stages two short operas composed by Nino Rota. Known chiefly for his cinema soundtracks and his lifelong relationship with iconic directors such as Federico Fellini, Francis Ford Coppola and Luchino Visconti, Rota was a musical `enfant prodige' who composed sacred music as well as operas from a very young age.

	For over two decades, the Berlin Philharmonic has celebrated its creation on May 1 with the annual Europakonzert, which in 2010 was held in Oxford. Led by Daniel Barenboim, the orchestra performed a program including Johannes Brahms' Symphony No. 1. The young American cellist Alisa Weilerstein, who has attracted widespread attention for her passionate yet precise musicianship, joined the orchestra for a breathtaking performance of Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto.

	Karl Jenkins' `The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace' will be performed in New York today as part of a series of events to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. This performance was recorded at Cardiff's St David's Hall as part of the composer's 60th birthday celebrations. Conducted by the composer himself, it features the Welsh National Opera orchestra, four choirs and various solos.

	Fidelio (originally titled Leonore, oder Der Triumph der ehelichen Liebe, which translates to Leonore, or The Triumph of Marital Love), Op. 72, is Ludwig van Beethoven's only opera. This 2018 opera film from the Swiss Theater St. Gallen is based on Jan Schmidt-Garre's highly acclaimed stage production of Beethoven's Fidelio. Otto Tausk conducts the Sinfonieorchester and choir of St. Gallen, as well as many wonderful soloists in a beautifully designed set by Nikolaus Webern.

This concert featured the Berliner Philharmoniker performing live at the ancient Herodes Atticus Theatre along with an interesting combination of conductor and soloist - Sir Simon Rattle wielding the baton as pianist Daniel Barenboim plays Johannes Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1 and Arnold Schoenberg's arrangement of Brahms' Piano Quartet No 1.
