    Mahler

    On 14 November 1987, conductor Simon Rattle made his Berlin Philharmonic debut with Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 6. In retrospect Rattle says that he felt like he was finding his voice that day. Mahler's multifaceted work is now again on the program when Sir Simon appears for the last time as chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic in the Philharmonie in 2018.

    Brahms

Leonidas Kavakos rose to fame in 1985, when he became the youngest musician to ever win the first price of the prestigious Sibelius Competition. With Yuja Wang, an accomplished artist at young age herself, he forms a masterful duo of chamber music interpretation.

    Couperin : leçons de ténèbres

    The French soprano Hanna Bayodi and the Portuguese Ana Quintans join today the Ricercar Consort. The music is by maestro Couperin who, just prior to his death, had his printer's licence renewed in order to be able to publish all his music. However, Couperin's family neglected to pursue the matter, which resulted in the loss of six sets of Leçons de ténèbres, among other things.

    Italian pianist Riccardo Schwartz was born in Milan in 1986 and completed his studies at the Conservatorio of Milan as a student of acclaimed musicians such as Riccardo Risaliti, Leonardo Leonardi, and Annibale Rebaudengo. He graduated with Honorable Mention and continued his piano studies at the Accademia Pianistica of Imola. Here, he performs Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 30, Op. 109.
