    Mozart

    The Dutch conductor Bernard Haitink opens the Berlin Philharmonic's Europakonzert at the Royal Albert Hall in London with Tchaikovsky's `Fantasy Overture' from Roméo et Juliette. The second piece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is his famous `Violin Concerto No. 3 in G major K. 216', played by the German violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann.

    Le Grand Orgue in Concert

    Current holder of Great Organ of the Notre Dame, Olivier Latry began his musical career when he enrolled in Gaston Litaize's organ class at the Academy of Saint-Maur at the age of 16. In 1985, at 23 years of age, Latry was awarded the post of one of four titulaires des grands orgues of Notre Dame, Paris. Besides enriching the musical world as an organist, improvisor and composer, Olivier Latry also works as a Professor of Organ at the Conservatoire de Paris.

    Giovanni de Macque: Madrigals

    An expressionistic serenade as the prelude to a thrilling festival week: this was the task assigned to Manfred Cordes and Weser-Renaissance Bremen. In Giovanni De Macque, one of the finest madrigalists of the period around 1600, they found the perfect partner. De Macque, born in Valenciennes, was trained in Naples and evolved from conservative to experimental, writing multi-coloured, evocative music on texts about ecstasy and broken hearts.

    Beethoven

    Fidelio (originally titled Leonore, oder Der Triumph der ehelichen Liebe, which translates to Leonore, or The Triumph of Marital Love), Op. 72, is Ludwig van Beethoven's only opera. This 2018 opera film from the Swiss Theater St. Gallen is based on Jan Schmidt-Garre's highly acclaimed stage production of Beethoven's Fidelio. Otto Tausk conducts the Sinfonieorchester and choir of St. Gallen, as well as many wonderful soloists in a beautifully designed set by Nikolaus Webern.
