	Israeli violinist Itzhak Perlman and the Berlin Philharmonic perform the Violin Concerto, Op 61 by Ludwig van Beethoven under the direction of Daniel Barenboim. Beethoven dedicated his Violin Concerto to his colleague Franz Clement, a prominent violinist of the time. The piece was presented in Vienna in 1806 and was only interpreted a handful of times during the following decades.

In Giovanni De Macque, one of the finest madrigalists of the period around 1600, they found the perfect partner. De Macque, born in Valenciennes, was trained in Naples and evolved from conservative to experimental, writing multi-coloured, evocative music on texts about ecstasy and broken hearts.

It was with this piece that Bruckner finally achieved widespread recognition and it has remained one of his most popular works. The symphony adheres to the classical four-movement format. The heart of the work is a long and deeply felt Adagio, composed as a memorial to Wagner.

	The Bolshoi Theatre Ballet performs Dmitri Shostakovich's Golden Age, a ballet in two acts, choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich. The Russian choreograph, and co-librettist of this work was the soloist of the Maryinsky Theatre for 18 years and later for a short time headed its ballet. His first productions at the Kirov were The Stone Flower and The Legend of Love.
