    Verdi

    This tragic masterpiece marked Verdi's breakthrough in 1851. The hunchbacked jester Rigoletto loves his only daughter Gilda deeply and protects her as well as he can. His patron, the Duke of Mantua, however, is infatuated with the pretty girl and does not hesitate when the opportunity arises to spend a night with Gilda. Rigoletto longs for revenge but is deceived: the assassin Sparafucile does not stab the Duke, but Gilda, the girl he so badly sought to protect.

    Ravel: Mother Goose Suite

    Marin Alsop conducts the Britten-Pears Orchestra in a performance of Maurice Ravel's 'Ma mère l'Oye' (Mother Goose). This performance took place at Snape Maltings Concert Hall, Snape Bridge in the UK in 2017. This five-part orchestral suite was originally as a piano duet in 1910, but the composer orchestrated the work the year after. Ravel originally composed the work as a piano duet for the two children of Polish sculptor Gobeski and dedicated the work for four hands to the children.

    Purcell: King Arthur

    `King Arthur' is about the two kings Arthur and Oswald, who are both after the Holy Grail. In the famous stammer aria, the aloof Oswald melts for the fair Grail keeper Emmeline. When she breaks him the news that her heart belongs to King Arthur, Oswald decides to kidnap her. The competing Kings' struggle ends in a nerve-racking duel. Romantic scenes alternate with fiery fights, and dance plays an important role in this staging of 'King Arthur'.

    Italian pianist Riccardo Schwartz was born in Milan in 1986 and completed his studies at the Conservatorio of Milan as a student of acclaimed musicians such as Riccardo Risaliti, Leonardo Leonardi, and Annibale Rebaudengo. He graduated with Honorable Mention and continued his piano studies at the Accademia Pianistica of Imola. Here, he performs Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 32, Op. 111.
