    Stravinsky

    Few premieres will have been as troublesome as that of Igor Stravinsky's ballet `Le Sacre du Printemps'. The ballet, written for Sergey Diaghilev's Ballets Russes with choreography by Vaslav Nijinsky, tells the story of a young girl that literally has to dance herself to death as a sacrifice to the sun god, but it was not met with much understanding among its 1913's listeners.

Known chiefly for his cinema soundtracks and his lifelong relationship with iconic directors such as Federico Fellini, Francis Ford Coppola and Luchino Visconti, Rota was a musical `enfant prodige' who composed sacred music as well as operas from a very young age.

Leonidas Kavakos rose to fame in 1985, when he became the youngest musician to ever win the first price of the prestigious Sibelius Competition.
