    Beethoven

    Israeli violinist Itzhak Perlman and the Berlin Philharmonic perform the Violin Concerto, Op 61 by Ludwig van Beethoven under the direction of Daniel Barenboim. Beethoven dedicated his Violin Concerto to his colleague Franz Clement, a prominent violinist of the time. The piece was presented in Vienna in 1806 and was only interpreted a handful of times during the following decades.

    Karl Jenkins: The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace

    Karl Jenkins' `The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace' will be performed in New York today as part of a series of events to mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. This performance was recorded at Cardiff's St David's Hall as part of the composer's 60th birthday celebrations. Conducted by the composer himself, it features the Welsh National Opera orchestra, four choirs and various solos.

    In a 2019 performance from the Muziekgebouw in Eindhoven, Hartmut Haenchen conducts the philharmonie zuidnederland for this performance of Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 7. The German-born conductor, who became a Dutch citizen through naturalisation, was chief conductor at the Dutch National Opera, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra before he was finally knighted for his services to the Dutch music landscape.

    This tragic masterpiece marked Verdi's breakthrough in 1851. The hunchbacked jester Rigoletto loves his only daughter Gilda deeply and protects her as well as he can. His patron, the Duke of Mantua, however, is infatuated with the pretty girl and does not hesitate when the opportunity arises to spend a night with Gilda. Rigoletto longs for revenge but is deceived - the assassin Sparafucile does not stab the Duke, but Gilda, the girl he so badly sought to protect.
